A couple new trip birds and a probable Adak bird (alas, not for me…)

I drove over to the Warbler Willows this morning. Nothing new.

I then went to Andrew Lake and found a Lesser Scaup for the trip list.

I came back and went up to the National Forest.

Shortly after I arrived there, Marc called and said they just had a likely Swainson’s Thrush on the road to Warbler Willows!

I quickly joined them and they pointed to where it flew off to. It was in the direction of the willows, so we drove down there. No bird.

This shows the vagaries of birding on Adak. I drove down that road about an hour before they arrived. I saw no bird. They had it on the road.

They got “flying away” shots.

Let’s put that down as a mystery bird for now. Reviews are coming in.

Opinions welcome!

I continued on my way up to Clam Lagoon. On the road along the East Side Ponds, three Pacific Golden-Plovers flew up and then walked to the side of the road.

Then, up on the Seawall, a Brambling flew out of the side of the road.

Marc’s group got to see both later on.

Back down in town, after I got gas, I drove down to the Marina and got a nice shot of an immature Red-faced Cormorant.

After dinner, I got a call from Marc saying they had two Sanderlings and a Dunlin at Clam Lagoon.

I raced up there (the sun was setting) and got them.

He also mentioned that they had a Ring-necked Duck with the Greater Scaup up at Lake Andrew. I thought I saw one the other day, but the birds were so far out and with the choppy water, I couldn’t find it again and just passed it off as wind and lighting.

I guess not. I will look for it again tomorrow.

The trip list is at 57.

My Adak Year List is 100!
