{"id":2992,"date":"2024-10-04T02:19:55","date_gmt":"2024-10-04T06:19:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/franklinhaas.com\/wordpress\/?p=2992"},"modified":"2024-10-04T02:19:55","modified_gmt":"2024-10-04T06:19:55","slug":"thursday-october-3-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/franklinhaas.com\/wordpress\/thursday-october-3-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Thursday, October 3, 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Some day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Temps in the 40s-50s, partly sunny, Wind WNW 20-40 mph<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was hard standing up when I got out of the car!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I met Aaron up at Lake Jean to look for the Common Mergansers, but there were very few ducks there and only two Red-breasteds out beyond Lake Jean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I checked Andrew Lake, but the waves and spray made it impossible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I decided t try the Loran Station one more time. He decided not to chase it, but was headed down to Finger Bay. It was a lifer for at least one of his group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Little did I know that this was a premonition of things to come&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I went back to the house, settled in, made dinner, and was just finishing up when I received a text from Aaron saying there were &#8220;loads&#8221; of Mottled Petrels in Kuluk Bay!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I raced over there and yes, there were. Plus Short-tailed Shearwaters. They were flying in and out of the mist, but viewing conditions changed from minute to minute. After clearly seeing several Mottleds, I decided to run up to the Palisades Overlook to see if the view was any better. It wasn&#8217;t (and no wind protection).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I returned to the Kuluk Bay Overlook where the guys were and Aaron said he had just had a Short-tailed Albatross! Well, I didn&#8217;t get that, but the Mottled Petrel was a lifer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While searching for the petrels, I had taken a random number of photos of the bay in hopes of catching one. Who knows what else it brought in last night and today?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Trip List is 62.
